Who Knew? A Discerning Tourist’s Guidebook to Lesser Known Attractions
New Orleans' Great River Road is actually two roads spanning either side of the Mississippi River. What appears to be the front of the great houses from the road is actually often the rear given visitors, as well as supply deliveries, generally arrived by water. The homes no longer have water views, however, because a 20' high dike was built in the '30's after a horrible hurricane to ward off future destruction. Antebellum mansions extend beyond Baton Rouge.
